Time to support high school football programs

There is nothing quite like sitting in the stands on a Friday night and enjoying the sights and sounds of a high school football game. Whether it’s the sound of players colliding, the crowd roaring after a touchdown or the band playing the fight song, there is just something special about the atmosphere and camaraderie that goes along with high school football season.
The 2015 season will officially kickoff tomorrow night when Ellwood Christian Academy hosts Francis Marion at Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday night two hometown teams will go head to head, while another will try to work out the kinks in a jamboree. Selma plays host to Southside at Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m., and Dallas County will visit Billingsley for a jamboree before their season officially starts next week.
Regardless of where you went to school, or what team you pull for, we should all support our local teams. It doesn’t matter if you are a Saint, a Hornet or one of the other many mascots that represent the seven area high schools. Take a few hours out of your Friday night to clap and cheer your team on to victory.
The young men that step onto the gridiron every Friday night need your support, and there is no better way to support them than by buying a ticket and giving them a little bit of an advantage when the other team has the ball.
Teams have spent countless hours of blood, sweat and tears on the practice field preparing for the season, and whether it is this Friday night or just another during the season, everyone should go to at least one game.
Every school needs support and a strong fan base behind it to make it through the season, so let’s start the season off on a good note. We hope to see the stands filled with fans as we cover football season.
