Grist State Park readies for fun day

Paul Grist State Park is planning a full day Saturday of family fun.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the park will be open for guided hiking, biking, swimming and fishing.
There will also be archery, geocaching, hayrides and paddleboarding.
Geocaching will be done from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The relatively new outdoor activity is like a treasure hunt with a GPS device.
The archery class will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and only for children ages 10 and up. The class will be taught by park rangers and will include all needed equipment.
At 2 p.m., the Alabama Wildlife Center will present its birds of prey program.
Fishing can be done all day, and poles will be available. The lake at Paul Grist State Park is 100 acres. Hayrides will also be offered throughout the day.
Short guided nature hikes will be led from 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.
There will also be information on Alabama State Parks, the Alabama Wildlife Center and Forever Wild.
Regular park admission will apply. Children 5 and under get in free. Admission is $1 for children ages 6-12, $3 for adults ages 13-61 and $1 for seniors 62 and older. For more information, call (334) 872-5846.
