SMSGT Robert J. Austin, age 86, of Seminole, and formerly of Selma, passed away July 4, 2015, in the company of his loving family.
He was born in Old Town, Maine and raised in Milford, Maine where he graduated from Old Town High School in 1947. He received his bachelor’s degree from Wallace Community College Selma, where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 10 years. Robert was a 26 year veteran with the U.S. Air Force with service in Korea and Vietnam. He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, Elks No. 167 of Selma, Air Force Sergeants Association, Masonic Lodge of Selma No. 926 and Alcazar Shrine in Montgomery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Doll Rugan Austin; brothers, George M. Austin Jr. and Phillip Austin; and sons-in-law, Philip Dow and Gary Cox.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Doris L. Austin; children, Cathy Dow, Leah Austin, Zeke (Cindy) Austin, Sue Cox and Bruce Austin; sister, Ann Marie Severance; grandchildren, Josh Austin, Loren Austin and Jason (Summer) Cox; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Robert’s request, there will be no services.
