Ordinance provides good safety measures

The Selma City Council recently passed an ordinance to require clubs and lounges to install security cameras outside of the establishments.
According to Selma City Council President Corey Bowie, the cameras have to be installed by Feb. 1, 2016.
The ordinance states that all establishments must have a security camera that is able to retrieve video images and store them for at least 30 days.
With multiple recent cases of violence outside of of Selma nightclubs, we are glad to see the ordinance being passed and strongly support the decision. We hope that the cameras will provide the much needed feeling of security for people who go to these clubs and cut down on the crime.
We realize the cameras aren’t likely to end incidents, but hopefully when something does happen, the police department will now have video evidence to help solve the case.
