The 11-and-12 year old Selma Red All-stars continued to roll through the state tournament in Centreville Monday as they defeated Tuscumbia 11-6.

Selma head coach Nathan Ellis said the players came out swinging and scored six runs in the first inning to take an early lead.

Ellis said the difference makers in the game were a two-run home run by Tyreshon Freeman in the first, Darrius Ellis scoring several big runs throughout the game, an RBI-single from Osegia “Big O” Aghedo in the second and Chris Gardner stealing home in the third.

“They are very pleased with themselves and I am too,” Ellis said. “They are having a good time. We are just taking it one game at a time.”

Selma took on Decatur, the only other undefeated team in the Ozone tournament besides Selma Tuesday night. The game’s result was not available before deadline.

If Selma won Tuesday, it would play in the semifinals Wednesday. With a loss, Selma would play in the loser’s bracket of the double elimination tournament.

The state championship game will be Thursday at 10 a.m., with an if necessary game scheduled for 2 p.m. that afternoon.

“We need to continue to stay disciplined,” Ellis said. “Take what the game gives you. Whatever that might be. Anyway we can get runs across the plate. If we do that we will be successful.”
