James Etheridge Bedgood Jr., 72, a resident of Selma, passed away on June 7, 2015.  Mr. Bedgood was born in Montgomery on September 15, 1942. He was the son of the late James Etheridge Bedgood Sr. and Sadie Lorine Bedgood. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gale Morris Bedgood; a son, James E. Bedgood, III of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Elizabeth Bedgood Gamble (Robert); grandchildren William Colgate Gamble and Lillian Lane Gamble; sister –in-law Dawn Morris Simmons; nieces Allison Armistead, Brooke Hipp (Brian), and Katie Simmons; aunts and uncles, Susan Stover (Charles), Tomilu Braxton (Joe), Charles Bedgood (Linda), David Bedgood (Sylvia) and Jane Morris (Gary); cousin, Powell Morris Bedgood (Melinda); and a close family friend, Louise Rivers.

Jimmy was a 1960 graduate of Parrish High School, where he excelled in football, baseball and track. He attended Wake Forest University on a football scholarship, graduating with a degree in accounting in 1965. Immediately following graduation, he served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran. Following his discharge, he returned to Selma and began his career in accounting with Stack, Breeding, and Calame. In 1970, he became a Certified Public Accountant. During his career he partnered with Lewis Stack, Charles Breeding, Lee Calame Jr. and Amy Pilcher.

Enjoying many outdoor sports, golf, hunting and fishing were his favorites. He served as the treasurer of the Flatwood Hunting Club. As an avid duck hunter, Jimmy enjoyed competitive duck calling. He was a three time state champion and a regional winner, qualifying him for many trips to the World Duck Calling Championship in Stuttgart, Ark. His top finish was eighth place. As an active member of Ducks Unlimited, he chaired the local DU Banquet Committee for years. Jimmy chaired the Morgan Academy Board of Directors and also served on the Selma Country Club board. Mr. Bedgood was an active member of Pairs and Spares Sunday School class. He chaired the usher committee for many years, as well as serving on a breakfast cooking team. He attended the Central Alabama Emmaus Walk and was active in the Selma Cluster.

A memorial service will be held at Church Street United Methodist Church, Selma, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, with the Rev. Fred Zeigler officiating. Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery, and visitation will be in the church parlor at 10 a.m. Pallbearers will be Robert Beers, John Christian, Larry Mitchell, Bob Morrow, Sterl Rainer, Ray Thomas, Jim Thomas, Joe Williams and B. Lee Youngblood.
