The fourth annual Unity in the Community Praise and Worship with an International Taste Food Festival will take place Saturday at 4 p.m. at Phoenix Park.

Selma City Council President Corey Bowie said plans for the festival are moving along without a hitch.

“I’m looking forward to it, and I’m ready to move forward with it,” he said. “Hopefully the weather participates.”

In the event of rain, the festival will be held in the St. James Hotel’s ballroom. Weather forecasts show that rain is unlikely.

“You always run into Murphy’s Law,” Bowie said. “What can go wrong may go wrong, but hopefully we won’t anticipate that though. Everything’s going along well. All logistics are going along smoothly.”

Word about the festival has been spreading. Councilman Sam Randolph said he stopped by a radio station to increase awareness about the upcoming event.

“People called on the show and said they were going to come [to the event],” he said. “They look forward to having great food and having the chance to get their utility bills paid. A lot of people are looking forward to that.”

Along with people who might stop by for the affair, tasty bites from Kentucky Fried Chicken, Tally-Ho Restaurant, Dominos Pizza, Captain D’s, Italian and Indian restaurants in Montgomery are amongst the many eateries that will be featured at the affair. About 16 vendors have signed up for the occasion. Randolph wants the whole community to stop by the festival to support others in the city.

“We just ask everyone to come out and support this event,” he said. “I also want them to support the fundraiser we have for Visually Impaired People, Inc. In addition, citizens can give back to people in Selma by assisting them with their utility bills.”

Admission is $5 and food and drinks will be provided. Children 12 and under will get in free. All proceeds will benefit Visually Impaired People, Inc.
