Interim Leadership director Callie Nelson said the program extended the deadline for applications from June 1 because they wanted more people in its 22nd class.

“I have 14 applications in my hand and I talked to two people today so I’m going to say 16,” Nelson said.

Nelson said the goal is to have a minimum of 20 people apply, but they would like to have 25.

Members will meet on the second Thursday of each month at varying locations to discuss issues they are passionate about and come together and learn ways to help the city of Selma.

One session will be held in Montgomery along with the Youth Leadership program and other Black Belt Leadership program on State Government Day, which is on March 8, 2016.

The first class session and orientation to the program will be Friday, July 17.
