The Dixie Flips Gymnasts wrapped up their season with an annual fundraising event at home Saturday morning.

The girls, who were divided into groups by their ages and skill levels, showcased what they learned throughout the year at the team’s Fun Meet.

Each gymnast competed in four events; vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.

Gymnast Sarah Lloyd Free was the only level-five performer on the team. Free finished with a total score of 32.3. She scored an 8.6 on vault, 7.1 on bars and an 8.3 on both beam and floor.

Level two performer Shyana Montoro finished as the next highest level performer with an overall score of 35.1. Montoro scored an 8.6 on vault, 8.5 on bars, 9.2 on beam and an 8.8 on floor.

Coach Faye Raney was impressed by the improvement of the level one and two class girls.

“I think they had a good time,” Raney said. “Several of our girls moved up a level so its new for them doing brand new routines. The babies surprised me by not only having fun, but they also showed their skills well. I was very proud of our little ones. Hopefully the class girls will be moving up to the competitive team before summer is over.”

The Dixie Flips will continue practicing through the summer until the team begins competition in August. The competitive team will practice twice a week from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday and the class girls will practice on Monday and Wednesday.

“We practice all summer long,” Raney said. “We are a year-round sport. We’re taking a week off and then we will be right back in the swing of things.”
