Remember reason for the holiday

Monday’s holiday is a rare day off work for most of us. It’s a chance to fire up the grill, put your feet up and invite the family over during a day of rest and relaxation.
However, it’s important not to overlook the importance of Memorial Day, which is to honor the brave men and heroes who died while serving in the armed forces.
We encourage those with time to visit the grave of a lost family member or to participate in Monday’s Memorial Day service at Memorial Stadium. Even just taking the time to raise an American flag into the sky will do.
So many have given their lives to protect the freedoms — like throwing steaks on the grill or spending a holiday lying on the couch —that we take for granted, that it isn’t asking much to take a few minutes to recognize those responsible for the lives and liberties we currently enjoy.
Make sure to enjoy the time off work Monday and to spend time with the ones you love the most. Just also remember that others may not be as lucky. Make sure to take the time to remember those that served our country so valiantly.
