A baseball showcase will be held this weekend at Bloch Park and at Wallace Community College Selma.
The Central Alabama Baseball Association will play games in Selma for the first time this weekend, as part of a showcase that will also include games at Faulkner University, Hooper Academy and the University of Montevallo.
“We go across the state and really all over the southeast but we play in front of colleges,” said CABA executive director Kennon McArthur. “Having the junior college there and having a historic ballpark there so you can kind of run it in conjunction, we just thought it was a good fit and it’s not too terribly far from Montgomery.”
The organization includes youth from 13-years-old to 18-years -old with an emphasis on getting players in front of colleges.
“We try to expand and get in front of every college and every junior college in the state at some point,” he said.
McArthur said there are kids with links to the Selma area that participate in his organization. He is a former professional baseball player who played in the Philadelphia Phillies’ organization. McArthur said every coach in the CABA played professional or in college. Games will start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission will be $5 at each venue.
