Selma High School senior Justice Richardson was among 1,000 students nationwide to be awarded the Gates Millennium Scholarship.  Richardson is the second Selma High student to receive the award in two consecutive years, right behind Nivory Gordon III last year.

We are glad to see students from the Queen City being recognized for their hard work and dedication to their academics.

Students like Richardson and Gordon have shown that it doesn’t matter where you’re from, it’s all about setting your sights high and never giving up.

Not only does the honor reflect Richardson’s hard work, it represents the type of students that graduate from Selma High School.

We’re guessing that the list of schools with students receiving the scholarship in back to back years is not that long of a list, but Selma is happy to be on it.

Other students should look at Richardson and Gordon as examples of what they can accomplish if they work hard, apply for scholarships and set their goals high.

We wish Richardson the best of luck as she begins her college career and we are excited to see what the future holds for her as she represents our community in the best way possible.

We hope to see even more students from Selma High School and other schools in the region become recipients of this scholarship, and many other scholarships, and go on to do amazing things for the Black Belt.
