Liberals continue to disregard Constitution

Occasionally, you come across something that hits you like a ton of bricks. Such was the case in the May issue of Mature Living Magazine the other day. Toward the back of the magazine was a quote from a church sign. It read: “Don’t be so open-minded that your brains fall out!” Now that set an old country boy like me to thinking. Doesn’t that sum up where we are in America today? We have just about flipped over backwards to accommodate everybody and everything under the sun. Is there nothing sacred anymore? Is there nothing taboo on the planet or is everything up to liberal interpretation?

Finally, a reasonable explanation for what is going on with our country during this administration. For the longest time I had thought it to be brain dead, but no, it must be open-mindedness, and the absence of a brain. The political correctness movement has evolved into open-mindedness. Anything goes, and everyone’s rights trumps Christian or religious principles.

The wisdom and far sightedness of the founding fathers have long ago been abandoned by the present day liberal indoctrinated Harvard graduates. Recently, former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson had this to say: “Scientists say they’re now several steps closer to being able to resurrect extinct species. Might want to start with the Founding Fathers, before it’s too late.”

Unfortunately, the federal government along with liberal federal judges and liberal politicians have brow beat, coerced, disregarded the Constitution and forced their warped agenda on the people. We are being forced to accept conduct contrary to biblical teachings as acceptable traits of society. They brand it under the guise of civil rights. It has reached a point where everyone has civil rights except Christians. You, as a Christian, do not have a right to act out your religious convictions due to the opposing rights of someone else. Their rights trumps any religious conviction you might have.

Not so in the beginning and as originally set forth in the Constitution. Listen to what Thomas Jefferson had to say on the subject in a letter to Samuel Miller in 1808: “I consider the government of the United States as interdicted by the Constitution from intermeddling with religious institutions, their doctrines, discipline or exercises. This results not only from the provision that no law shall be made respecting the establishment or free exercise of religion, but from that also which reserves to the States the powers not delegated to the United States.”

Clearly, marriage is a states right issue as already acknowledged by the Supreme Court in its decision on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). We will see how they weasel out of it on the gay marriage issue now before them.

Last but not least this: “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom.” — Benjamin Franklin, Letter to the Abbes Chalut and Arnoux, 1787.
