In just a few days, Angela Mangum will settle into her new office as Selma City School’s superintendent.
Acting superintendent Larry DiChiara officially presented Mangum to the Selma City School Board and community members during Tuesday’s meeting.
Over the past week, DiChiara has been working with Mangum, updating her on the latest news and happenings in the system. He plans to continue to coach her in the weeks and months to come.
“She’s already got all the tools,” DiChiara said. “All she needs is the history and the information that we’re going to be able to provide her, and she’ll be able to take it from there. We hope she can hit the ground running. We’re very excited to have such a quality young lady with such high standards.”
DiChiara said he’s going to miss the relationships he’s forged as acting superintendent but will continue working in the system for the Alabama Department of Education.
“Selma now has a new superintendent,” he said. “It only means I no longer have to serve in the acting superintendent role. I will still continue to serve as the chief administrative officer as a part of the state intervention.”
Although Mangum is the city’s new leader in education, DiChiara said the intervention is not over, but it is certainly drawing to a close.
Mangum addressed the school board and audience members Tuesday, saying she was excited to be joining the system and thanked everyone for their support.
“I want to thank the school board for their confidence and for unanimously selecting me as superintendent,” she said. “It is an awesome responsibility and opportunity to do what I love so much — and that’s to be a part of making sure children receive a high quality education.”
Mangum is expected to begin work Monday.
