Alabama State University football coach Brian Jenkins will be the speaker Thursday night at a banquet hosted by the Selma-Dallas County Alumni Chapter of ASU.

The 13th annual Black and Gold Banquet will be held at the Selma Convention Center at 6:30 p.m. Admission is a $20 donation that will go towards the chapter’s scholarship fund.

“We will take the funds from the banquet and we will sponsor a scholarship to the seniors who would like to go to Alabama State of those persons who attend high school here in Dallas County,” said chapter vice president Gerald Shirley.

He said students write an essay and then a select few are chosen to receive a $600 scholarship to attend Alabama State.

Shirley said Jenkins, entering his first year as head football coach at ASU, will likely speak on the upcoming season and his expectations for the program.
