Elizabeth Driskell Cody

Elizabeth (Betty) Driskell Cody, 92, a resident of Montgomery, joined her risen lord Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 10, 2015, at 10 a.m. in the New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma. The Rev. Michael Howell of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Montgomery will officiate and Leak-Memory Chapel of Montgomery will direct.
Mrs. Cody was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Watson Driskell and Corrye Em Steele Driskell of Selma; her sister, 2nd Lt. Kitty Driskell Barber (Army nurse who died in 1944); her husband of 72 years Col. Howard “Gene” Cody; and a grandson, Dale Howard Henderson. Survivors include her daughter, Margaret S. Henderson (Ron), Orlando, Fla.; three sons, William E. Cody (Sue), Fairhope, Howard E. Cody Jr. (Betty), Wetumpka, and David S. Cody, Austin, Texas; her sister-in-law, Sara C. Gaskin (Jack), Blountstown, Fla.; two granddaughters, Sara C. Baker (Ryan), Auburn, and Kelli C. Thornton (Gray), Cody, Wyo.; six grandsons, Ron F. Henderson Jr., Las Vegas, Cody L. Henderson (Dana), Boerne, Texas, Kyle E. Henderson (Shannon), Frisco, Texas, William E. Cody Jr. (Meredith), Metairie, La., Howard E. Cody III (Allison) and Carl Cody, Montgomery; and 17 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Cody was born in Selma and graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School in 1940. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she volunteered in her church, delivering meals on wheels and at Jackson Hospital for eight years. She enjoyed playing contract and duplicate bridge. Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons. Special thanks to her long-time caretaker Mendolyn Dean.
