Mangum deserves public’s full backing

The Selma City School board finished its interviewing process and named Angela Mangum as the next superintendent of the school system Monday, but the real work is really just beginning.
Congratulations to Mangum, who based on her resume, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will help lead the school system into its future. Mangum held two positions simultaneously before taking Selma’s superintendent position — coordinator of LEAD Alabama and coordinator of the Principal Candidate Semester Residency — but she has also served in the past as a principal for Montgomery Public Schools, an adjunct professor at Alabama State University and a chief academic officer for Montgomery schools and the Alabama State Department of Education.
Mangum was picked over four other candidates that also made it to the interviewing part of the job search.
We wish her luck as she begins her journey as superintendent at Selma City Schools and we look forward to seeing the positive changes she institutes in the school system.
It hasn’t been a banner five years for the Selma City School System, but through the state takeover tremendous strides have been made.
The school board trusts she is the right candidate to build on that work, and we encourage the public to give her its full backing.
