The steaks will be sizzling, and the green beer will be flowing at Tally-Ho Tuesday night for the restaurant’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Benefit Dinner.

The fundraiser, which was started in 1981 by then owner Bob Kelly, will be held Tuesday, March 17 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will benefit the Edmundite Missions’ Bosco Nutrition Center.

“We just like to give back to a different organization every year,” said co-owner Renee Wilkerson. “This is our community, and if we’re going to be a part of it, then we need to get some good out of it too.”

The dinner will feature a raffle that includes various items from Selma businesses.

“The food profits that we make go to the Edmundites, and we also have a raffle that local businesses have donated prizes for,” Wilkerson said. “We also have a $5 raffle for an Auburn or Alabama basket, so all of that money from tickets will go straight to them.”

The benefit dinner has been a huge success in its 30-plus years.

“We have a huge turnout from the city that comes and has fun every year,” Wilkerson said. “No one else really does anything for St. Patrick’s Day, so it is a good time to get everybody together and do something for good.”

The Edmundite Missions’ Bosco Nutrion Center serves between 1300 and 1400 meals a day, and the money raised from the fundraiser will be a huge benefit to continue the mission’s work.

“It is just great to be able to continue the work that we do on a daily basis and to have the support of the community encouraging us to do the job that we’ve been doing for 77 years now,” said Angela Hurst with the missions.

“This is not something we normally do, but we really want to reintroduce ourselves to the public, and this is a great way for us to really get the word out about all of the good work that we do all year.”
