Organizers from Bridge Crossing Jubilee, city of Selma deserve pat on the back

We’ve honestly run out of words to describe the events in Selma this past weekend. The president was greeted by 40,000 Selmians and double that amount were in the city Sunday to march in unison over the Edmund Pettus Bridge.
It was the type of weekend those in attendance will tell their grandchildren about, but most importantly, it felt like a proper tribute to those who took part in the original march on Bloody Sunday.
Regardless of size, when there’s that many people in a city, there’s always going to be problems. Saturday’s main issue was the heat, and Sunday’s problems were tied to the incredible volume of people trying to march over the bridge, but for the most part, everything ran as smoothly as possible.
All in Selma that played a role in planning this weekend’s events or took part should pat themselves on the back.
By many accounts, visitors have said amazing things about the generosity of the citizens of Selma and those who marched.
Organizers from the Bridge Crossing Jubilee and the city of Selma did a remarkable job ensuring the events ran as smoothly as possible. Although the bridge crossing and the president’s speech were the weekend highlights, so much more happened this weekend.
Organizers also had to account for the BET concert, Freedom Flame Gala and Jubilee parade to name a few and they did it all in a downtown that hasn’t ever seen that many people at once.
There’s plenty of cleanup work to do, but Selma as a whole should take time to celebrate an incredible weekend in the Queen City.
