Great music is something a band always hopes to be known for, but that’s not the only thing the members of the band Surviving The Fall want to be recognized for.

The band, based out of Prattville, is a Christian rock band that is dedicated to making great music while also spreading the message.

“We’re just doing the Christian band thing,” said Richard Walters, bass player for the band and First Cawhaba Bank chief financial officer. “Our music is good, but the message behind the music is even better.”

The band is made up of four members including Walters. Micah Williams takes on the role as the vocalist, while Randy McDaniel plays lead guitar and Randall Goodson keeps the beat on the drums.

“Randall and I have been buddies since we were just little kids, and Randall and I have played in bands with Randy on and off over the years,” Walters said. “About three years ago, we just decided that we were just going to get together for our ideal band, the one that we want to make last the rest of our playing years.”

One those three aligned, all they needed to find was a vocalist.

“We found a great singer, Micah … while doing an audition over the Internet and it just turned out to be great,” Walters said. “Everything just kind of jelled for us.”

The guys had been playing in other bands for some time, but they felt like it was time for a change.

“We’ve played in secular bands, bands that didn’t really give the glory to God, and we just figured it’s time in our lives that God has blessed us with the talent that we have and now it’s time to give back to him to glorify him,” Walters said.

“Spreading the message … that’s my favorite part.”

Walters said having the ability to play music while serving his God is a blessing, and something he is proud to be able to do.

“I can’t really get up and give speeches like some people can, but to be able to play music and share God’s message through the music, just gives me great satisfaction because that’s something I can do.”

The band plays at many different locations and travels up to a 100-mile radius, although they have played beyond that before. Anyone can book the band, and they can easily be contacted through their website at www.stfband.com.

“If anybody would like to book us, we’ll be happy to book,” Walters said. “But we never charge anything to come and play.”
