Bill Buchanan, age 84, passed away on Tuesday Feb. 2 at his home in Mobile.  He is preceded in death by his parents, R.W. Buchanan Sr. and wife Sarah Buchanan; his brothers, Wallace A. Buchanan and Richard W. Buchanan Jr. and wife Mary Snow.

Did you know our father?  If you did, then you know he has gone to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The world is a lesser place without him, and I know we shall see him again when we meet in heaven. How can I possibly describe in such a brief space the man who was our father, mentor, hero and friend? I could write of his many worldly achievements but that is truly not what he was about. My dad lived his life striving to be like Jesus! He treated EVERYONE with love and compassion…rich, poor, U.S. congressman and the homeless. He had a huge tender heart! He was a devoted giver of his time and his money to those who were in need!  He loved his family unendingly and was characterized by his laughter and boundless joy! He loved his wife, our mom, as Jesus loves the church. DAD, WE ALL LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU BIG TIME!!

Survivors for Bill Buchanan include his bride of 61 years, Helen Hayes Buchanan; his sons W.G. Buchanan, Jr. and wife Cheryl, Bradley Hayes Buchanan, Dickson Wallace Buchanan and his wife Tori; his daughter Ann Buchanan McRae; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth K. Buchanan; his grandchildren, Hayes Buchanan, Dickson Buchanan Jr. and wife Abby, Kathryn Reyes and husband Todd, Helen McRae, Mikiel McRae; step-grandchildren, Oliver Smith, Elliot Smith and Alex Smith.

The graveside service will be family only Thursday, Feb. 5 at 9 a.m., at Pinecrest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL 36605. Visitation will be from 9:45 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Downtown Fellowship Church, 316 Dauphin St., Mobile, AL 36602.  A memorial service will immediately follow visitation.
