Mr. Vickers was born in Orrville and grew up in Selma. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the United States and the Pacific as a Master Sergeant. He worked for 27 years with J C Penney as a manager in various store locations in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee. He continued to work for various companies in sales until retiring. He loved to fish and camp and RV. And, he loved just being around people and family and talking. He never met a stranger and would stop and help anyone in need. But, the thing he loved most was loving on his family — especially his grandkids, great-grandkids and great great-grandkids. His favorite thing was saying to them all “I love you a bushel and a peck” and having them respond “and a hug around the neck.”
