The city of Selma and Paramount Pictures deserve a standing ovation for their planning and execution of Sunday’s commemorative march.
On the eve or Martin Luther King Jr. Day, they brought something very special to Selma that will leave a lasting impression on many eyes for years to come.
The event brought director Ava Duvernay, producers Oprah Winfrey, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner, stars David Oyelowo, Common and John Legend back to the Queen City to show their appreciation for not only letting them film parts of the movie here, but to also thank the city for what it symbolizes — glory.
During a time when so many negative things are getting a lot of attention, it was a great moment for Selma, as it reminded people that great things have happened here before, and they can happen here today.
It was great day for Selma because it brought so much positivity for a city that can sometimes be misunderstood.
The event also made an economic impact, as the city saw tourists from across the United States come to pay homage to King and to Selma.
The community should thank those that made this happen, as it was surely something special for Selma.
The filmmakers showed their love and support for Selma by marching with the people and giving them a once in a lifetime performance from Common and John Legend on the Edmund Pettus Bridge.
While the streets of Selma have returned to normal, the memory of seeing so many people come together for such an event will be a lasting one to those who attended.
Thank you to everyone that made this happen.
