Searching for stories from the past

The 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday is less than two months away, meaning the nation’s eyes will soon turn to Selma to mark a dark and historic day in our history.
Seemingly since the end of the 2013 jubilee, the city has been preparing for the the expected overflow of visitors for this year’s historic milestone.
We’ve been trying to get ready to, but we need some help.
We’d like to hear from those who were involved in the movement in 1965 and talk to them about the heroic and world changing events that took place. There are members of the community who frankly can tell the story better than any history book or documentary, because they saw it through their own eyes.
That’s who we want to talk to.
Those stories deserve to be shared. There’s so much we know about the Selma to Montgomery march and all of the events before and after, but there’s likely a lot we don’t know. We’d like to share those stories before it’s too late.
Anyone that wouldn’t mind sharing their stories from Selma in 1965, call 410-1736 or email justin.averette@selmatimesjournal.com.
