Christmas may still be weeks away, but residents will have opportunities to celebrate as early as Saturday.

The Selma Christmas Parade and Selma Mall’s Holiday Bazaar both begin Saturday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m.

Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryl Smedley said 75 participants are registered for the parade, which will have a theme of “Miracle on Broad Street.”

“I think it’s a great lineup,” Smedley said. “I’ll be glad when it gets here.”

The Chamber invited the public to join the parade in early October with details on how to register.

Local residents who aren’t affiliated with the city of Selma or the Chamber of Commerce will judge floats based on various criteria. The floats that earn the most points will be awarded first, second or third place ribbons.

The parade begins at the intersection of Washington Street and Water Avenue, and travels along Broad Street and Furniss Avenue before it returns to Washington Street to disband.

And the parade will not be the only option for those eager to dive into the Christmas spirit, because the Holiday Bazzar will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Held at the Selma Mall, the event provides shoppers with a chance to purchase homemade arts and crafts, baked goods or canned goods, handcrafted jewelry and more items provided by local individuals and organizations.

Both events are sure to provide family-fun environments, according to their organizers.
