Search ongoing for recreation coordinator

The search for Valley Grande’s coordinator of recreation and sports is ongoing.
The position is part-time and is for someone to organize, promote, and supervise all recreation and sports services at Valley Grande’s Sports Complex.
The Valley Grande City Council discussed the position during Monday’s meeting. The position has been posted on the city’s website for the past three weeks.
“We haven’t had a whole lot of responses,” Valley Grande Mayor Wayne Labbe said. “I don’t know if people just don’t feel like they are qualified to do the job or if it just isn’t getting out.”
Labbe said he is more concerned that the person who becomes coordinator be able to fulfill the job duties than their knowledge of baseball.
“It’s has to be a person who’s good at coordinating events and communicating with people to get things out there,” Labbe said. “It’s also got to be a person, in my opinion, who loves to deal with kids.”
As of Monday evening, only one individual has submitted an application.
“I like to have four or five resumes in my hand to make a decision, because I don’t like it to be made for me,” he said.
Labbe said Monday that the council would be accepting applications for one more week.
