Keith 20, Akron 6

Keith (1-6) rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Akron 20-6 Friday night for its first win of the year. Domonique Jones ran for touchdowns of 80, 50 and 60 yards for the Bears.

“It feels great [to get a win],” Keith head coach Harry Crum said. “We’d gone a long time without one. We thought we did a lot of things in the preseason that would help us, and it seemed like we’ve just had a drought for scoring. Hopefully the drought is over.”

The Bears had lost 10 straight games going into Friday night.

Keith trailed 6-0 at the break after an early fumble set Akron up for a quick score in the first half.

Keith will host Sunshine next week.

UMS Wright 49,

Southside 16

Southside’s Khamari Gibbs and Jhlandius Sullivan scored late touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as Southside (3-4) fell to No. 2 UMS Wright 49-16 Friday night.

Troy Dixon ran for 103 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way for the Bulldogs. UMS Wright led 42-0 at halftime.

“We need to finish drives and worry about our job,” Southside head coach Daniel Flowers said. “We need to respond better to adversity.”

Southside will host Clarke County next Friday.

Dallas County 20,

Wilcox Central 6

Dallas County (2-5) got back on track with a 20-6 victory Friday over Wilcox Central.

Paul Daniels, Xavier Knight and Marcus Edwards scored touchdowns to lead the Hornets to a come-from-behind win after Wilcox had taken an early lead by capitalizing on an early Dallas County fumble.

Edwards also made both extra points for the Hornets.

“It doesn’t look like a big win on paper because of the records, but for our program it was huge because we fought through adversity and the Hornets won this time around,” Dallas County head coach Marty Smith said.

Dallas County hosts Calera next week.

Tabernacle Christian 58, Meadowview Christian 32

Meadowview (2-5) had to wait an extra two hours for kickoff in Friday’s game against Tabernacle  Christian because of a lightning delay.

Once kickoff finally took place, turnovers ended up dooming the Trojans in a 58-32 loss. The Trojans fumbled countless times, losing five, in the wet playing conditions.

“The turnovers killed us,” Meadowview Christian head coach Lebo Jones said. “They turned the ball over a few times too which hurt them. Defensively we just have to get better.”

C.J. Grimes scored three touchdowns for the Trojans, including one on an interception return. Dakota Sanders also added a rushing touchdown.

Meadowview hosts the Freedom Cowboys next Friday.
