It’s a tragedy that happens every day — someone dies on Alabama’s roads.
According to the Association for Safe International Road Travel, 37,000 people die in car accidents in the U.S. every year. Another 2.35 million are injured or disabled.
In fact you may be surprised to learn that car accidents are a leading cause of death in children. More than 1,600 kids under the age of 15 die in crashes annually.
Startling facts but one’s that shouldn’t be ignored.
We were glad to report this week that the Valley Grande Council has donated money for its volunteer fire department to buy new tools that could someday save victims of car crashes.
The new cutter and spreader could be the difference in life and death for an injured person trapped in a car. Second matter when someone’s life is on the line.
The equipment isn’t cheap, but as Valley Grande Mayor Wayne Labbe said, “What’s $20,000 if you talk about a life?’
