Vernadine Rembert will retire from the Dallas County Tax Collector’s Office at the end of the month.
Rembert has worked in the office for 27 years. She plans to take a few weeks get some rest before volunteering with her church and other community organizations.
“I would like to get involved in Habitat for Humanity. I always wanted to get my hands in that,” Rembert said.
She also plans to help with activities at New Beginnings Christ Center, where her husband Joseph Rembert Sr. is pastor.
Rembert works as chief clerk and said she will miss her coworkers and helping people coming in come tax time.
“We have lots of interaction with the public and lots of interaction with the courthouse. We all have to work together. I have worked with a wonderful staff,” Rembert said. “You really do form a relationship with them. We try to do our best to serve the citizens of Dallas County.”
The office just finished a four-year audit and is gearing up for its busiest time of the year. Rembert said she felt it was the right time to step down.
“I think we’ve done a good job and earned the public’s trust by being good stewards of their money,” she said.
Rembert also gave God credit for any success in her career.
“I honestly believe God brought us every step of the way. We’ve always come out on top. All the credit goes to God,” she said.
