James Wilburn Foster

James Wilburn Foster, born September 25, 1934, in Fayette, Alabama, died suddenly on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, Alabama.

James is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Glenn Suttles Foster; sons, James Michael (Susan) Foster and Charles Alan (Katherine) Foster; grandchildren, Michael Grey Foster, Kathryn Elise Foster, Samuel Gavin Foster and Alyssa Beth Foster.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Eldon Foster and Lillie Malone Foster and a brother, Bill D. Foster of Demopolis.

James was a loyal and faithful public servant. From 1957 through 1983 he served Selma in the Selma Police Department both as a patrolman and as a member and later Chief of the Detective Division. In 1983 he transferred to the Selma Fire Department where he served as Fire Administrator until his retirement in 1995.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jack Alvey officiating. The vestry of St. Paul’s will serve as honorary pallbearers. A private interment will be conducted at Old Live Oak Cemetery.
