It was a glitch. Where exactly that glitch happened is still the question.
But, what that glitch created was a payroll problem that affected more than 150 employees for the City of Selma.
Payroll payments, processed through direct deposits, for 158 Selma employees did not go through Thursday night, leading to a lot of problems and questions.
“At this point, we are still working to find out what happened, where it happened,” Selma treasurer Cynthia Mitchell said. “The most important thing Friday was not finding the problem, but getting the employees their money.”
Mitchell said the city learned of the problem Friday morning and worked with their banks to process hard checks for those employees affected by the glitch.
“The problem will be fixed,” Mitchell said. “We have some time before the next payroll, and we are working now to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
The city of Selma currently employees more than 300, some of who are temporary summer hires.
