Higher bond wanted in shooting

Dallas County District Judge Bob Armstrong was unable to decide on a new bond for a Dallas County man facing a charge of murder first degree during a bond hearing Thursday.
Eddie Mixon is being held on no bond at the Dallas County Jail, charged with the shooting death of his younger brother Stanley Mixon that occurred Monday at Eddie’s home just south of Plantersville.
District Attorney Michael Jackson said his office is hoping for a higher bond than the $100,000 bond sought by Mixon’s defense attorney Alston Keith.
“We asked for $1 million bond on this because of the charge and because of his extensive criminal record, but Judge Armstrong has taken it under advisement and will make a ruling by Friday,” Jackson said.
Jackson said Mixon’s record includes a number of previous charges, including a charge of theft in the 1970s, as well as charges of assault and sexual misconduct in 1993.
“He’s had a rape arrest, and assault arrest and another for theft,” Jackson said. “All that comes into play in a bond hearing. He’s been arrested for some violent things, so we want a high bond.”
In an earlier interview with the Times-Journal, Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman said Stanley Mixon had been shot in the waist, ribcage and in the head during an argument shortly before 6 p.m. Monday.
A preliminary hearing for the case has been scheduled to take place Thursday, Aug. 21.
