Dozens of people shared smiles, laughs and cheers Thursday morning to welcome Selma’s new Farmers Home Furniture.

Located on 1320 Highland Avenue, Farmers Home Furniture hosted their grand opening Thursday morning. Field operation specialist Gary Vinson said he’s confident the store, which is designed to supply quality, affordable furniture, will thrive in the Dallas County area.

“It’s a great community. It matches the market that we like to go into,” Gary Vinson, Farmers Home Furniture field operation specialist, said. “It’s got a rich family history, and it’s just the size of the community where we like to open.”

Among the crowd of people that attended Thursday’s event were Selma Mayor George Evans, Dallas County Probate Judge Kim Ballard, District Judge Bob Armstrong and Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce’s executive director Sheryl Smedley.

Store manager Doug Fortner said he was very pleased with support the grand opening received Thursday, and he didn’t expect anything less from Selma.

“I know when any business opens in this town, people are interested,” Fortner said. “They are excited to see something new, so I knew we would have a good crowd today.”

Evans said he was pleased to know Selma is home to one of the Farmers Home Furniture’s 182 stores in the country.

“This is certainly another piece to the puzzle that we have in Selma as we try to continue to build the neighborhoods in out community,” Evans said.
