A Valley Grande man is faced with a six-month jail sentence after law enforcement officials discovered a Facebook photo of a hanging puppy.

Andrew Parrish, 23, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of animal cruelty. Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said Parrish would begin serving his six-month sentence this weekend and will spend 24 months on probation after finishing his sentence. He will also perform 100 hours of community service and has been stripped of his rights to own an animal.

“The type of crimes demand severe punishment,” Jackson said.

Originally, Parrish shared the animal cruelty charge with his fiancé 26-year-old Cardine Dunnam, but the charges against Dunman were dropped.

“He took full responsibility, so as part of the plea agreement, the charges on the female were dismissed,” Jackson said.

Law enforcement officials found out about the incident last month after Dunnam posted a picture of a black puppy hanging from the ceiling on her Facebook page. The pictures received negative comments and Dunnam fired back.

“If you have a problem with my personal … page delete me,” she wrote.

Jackson said the puppy made a full recovery and has a new home.
