PLANTERSVILLE — No. 1 Dallas County outmanned Childersburg 60-47 Friday night in the semifinals of the Class 4A, Area 6 tournament.

The Hornets struggled to score early on, but found their groove in the second quarter and started pulling away with a 14-2 run before halftime.

“Our play inside made it extremely difficult for them but they made the game really physical like I knew they would,” Dallas County head coach Willie Moore said. “We were able to take control of the game and our guys did great from the free throw line. That being said, I don’t feel like we played with a lot of poise tonight.”

The Hornets stretched the lead to 19 points in the third quarter, but Childersburg managed to rally back within 10 points. Dallas County salted the game away at the free throw line, making 10 of 11 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter. William Lee led the Hornets by 24 points and Keyonis Phillips added 14 points of his own.

“We got stuck on 13 during the first half and I really thought that was a big difference in the ball game,” Childersburg head coach Al Barnett said. “It’s difficult to play catch up against anyone but even tougher when you’re playing the number one team in their own house. Our kids played hard all year and played hard tonight. I think we can walk out of here with our heads held high.”

The Hornets will face Tallassee in Monday’s title game at 6:30 p.m.
