VALLEY GRANDE — Monday’s Valley Grande City Council meeting saw council members move forward with the purchase of bleachers for the city’s main athletic park.

Mayor Wayne Labbe said the council approved the purchase of four, five-row, 21 foot-long sections from Terra Bound Solutions for a total price of $19,942, including shipping.

“Those should be here in about three weeks, and so we are in process of getting someone to put the concrete pad down,” Labbe said. “We should have them start before ball season starts the third weekend of March.”

During the previous council meeting, Labbe said the concrete pads would help improve the longevity of the bleachers.

Following the approval of the purchase of the new bleachers, Labbe said council began planning discussions for the city’s Founders Day celebration, which will take place the first Saturday in May.

“It’s kind of like our Market Day,” Labbe said. “Hopefully this year we will be concluding our ball season on Founders Day. We’d like to have the ball fields full of T-ball and coach-pitch games while the festivities are going on.”

Labbe said the festival would feature a remote controlled airplane display as well as food provided by several area churches.

“It’s being put together right now, and we’ll have all the usual games and fun for the kids,” Labbe said. “We’re lining up the bands to come out and play, and we’ll have country and gospel. It’ll be just a great family day and a time for everybody to get out and enjoy themselves.”
