UPDATED: Winter weather forces widespread school closures

Frigid temperatures and rain are expected to roll into the Dallas County area Monday, causing the closure of several area schools.

Monday’s low is expected to be 12 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham. The National Weather Service is also expecting rain and a wintry mix  to accompany the cold temperatures Sunday night and early Monday morning.

As a result of the winter weather, many schools in Dallas County have canceled classes. Below is a list of the closures:

  • Dallas County Schools – Closed Monday and Tuesday
  • Ellwood Christian – Closed Monday and Tuesday
  • Meadowview Christian – Closed Monday and Tuesday
  • Morgan Academy- Closed Monday and Tuesday
  • Selma City Schools – Closed Monday and Tuesday
  • Wallace Community College – Closed Monday and Tuesday. Will open Wednesday at 10 a.m.
