Alabama drivers among the worst

Motorists in Alabama can take pride in the fact they are not the worst in the country; but found that they aren’t far from the bottom.

The survey, performed by CarInsuranceComparison.com, considered the rate of fatalities per 100 million miles driven, failure to obey violations, drunken driving related fatalities, tickets handed out and careless driving violations.

CarInsuranceComparison.com compares features of various automobile insurance agencies. The data for their survey is collected from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, National Motorists Association and Mother Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

Alabama drivers ranked near the bottom nationally in the majority of the categories included in the survey.

Alabama motorists averaged 1.38 deaths per every 100 million miles driven, 40th in the nation.

Drivers in the Yellowhammer State were found to be the 41st in failure to obey violations.

Of the 865 motorists killed on Alabama roadways in 2013, 257 were involved in alcohol related incidents, ranking them 26th in the national ranking.

The state ranked 49th overall in the percentage of tickets given out, and 36th in regards to careless driving incidents reported.

Alabama came in fifth worst in the survey, beating out Texas, Mississippi and South Carolina, while Louisiana drivers were found to be the worst in the nation.

The states with the best-rated drivers were Oregon, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Utah while Vermont boasted the best drivers.
