Two teenagers are in jail and one is dead after a robbery and shooting late Saturday night on Franklin Street.
The Selma Police Department announced Sunday they had arrested Larry Hunter, 18, and John Jones, 16, in connection with the shooting death of a teenage female. The two suspects were charged with capital murder and booked into the Dallas County Jail without bond.
In a release Sunday, Lt. Curtis Muhannad, said officers responded to a call of a gunshot victim on the 1800 block of Franklin Street shortly before 10 p.m. Once they arrived, they found a black female lying on the sidewalk “incapacitated from a gunshot wound to the face.”
After further investigation, Muhannad said investigators learned the victim and two other females were robbed by Jones and Hunter for their cellphones. The two other females fled the scene after the shooting, but reportedly were caught by the suspects and robbed of one cellphone.
The identity of the victim is being withheld by the Selma Police Department, but the Times-Journal has learned the victim was a 17-year-old junior at Selma High School.
More charges are expected to be filed against the suspects Monday. Also, according to District Attorney Michael Jackson, the suspects are scheduled to make their initial court appearance Monday afternoon in the Dallas County Courthouse.
