Gordon Edward DeRamus, Jr., 76, of Huntsville, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Mr. DeRamus graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering in August, 1960, and began work at Marshall Space Flight Center on January 2, 1961. He worked in the Quality and Reliability Lab and the Materials and Processes Lab. Mr. DeRamus was a 33 year member of Boy Scouts of America. He was committee chairman of Troop 364 and Venturing Roundtable Commissioner for Talakto District. He actively supported the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary activities of his wife and son, who are members of Flotilla 24-06.
Mr. DeRamus was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Willie Mae DeRamus; an infant daughter; his father-in-law, Edward Raiford; and his brother-in-law, Mark Raiford.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Roseanne DeRamus; children, Gordon DeRamus III, Margaret Lindsey and husband, Jason, Carla DeRamus, and Mark DeRamus and wife, Leah; grandchildren, Grant Lindsey, Reaghan Lindsey, Lillian Mattox and Leupold DeRamus; brother, Andrew DeRamus and wife, RoseMary; nephews, Dexter DeRamus and Sidney DeRamus; grandnieces, Hannah DeRamus and Emma DeRamus; and mother-in-law, Ninalee Raiford.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, immediately followed by the funeral service. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma. (www.laughlinservice.com)
The family requests no flowers, but that memorials be made to Boy Scout Troop 364, Meals on Wheels or Madison County animal rescue organizations.
