Heavenly voices rang from the Selma Council Chamber Monday as the R.B. Hudson Middle School choir students filmed for the first annual City of Selma Christmas Carol Program.

The students were invited to city hall to film their school choir singing Christmas carols, which will beginning Friday at noon on the city’s Public, Education and Government channel, for the city of Selma Christmas Carol Program. The city’s channel is available to Charter cable customers.

Students will be filming for the program, which is themed “A Magical Christmas in Selma,” through Monday, Dec. 23.

“It gives the kids a chance to give back to their community through carols through spreading the Christmas cheer and joys of Christmas,” Youth and Senior Citizens Coordinator Kennard Randolph Selma said. “It helps them to show the Christmas spirit of Selma.”

The Youth and Senior Citizens program has been preparing for the program for about three weeks. They plan to make the program an event the community can anticipate every year.

“Here at city hall we just want the kids to know they are welcome here, into this government arena, to spread the Christmas cheer throughout the city,” Randolph said.

Randolph said the children have been thrilled to participate, with several schools agreeing be a part of the production.

“They have been excited about it,” Randolph said of the schools. “We have gotten several phone calls from the schools in preparing for this. The kids have been very phenomenal and helpful in spreading the Christmas spirit this year.”

Each group participating will perform carols for a scheduled time of 15 minutes in the city council chambers.

Anyone interested in scheduling a performance, should contact Randolph at 874-2417.
