A Sardis man, accused of rape, sodomy and burglary, had his bond raised from $150,000 to $750,000 in circuit court Tuesday.

Michael Christian, 43, 11247 Dallas County Road 30, is charged with first-degree rape, first-degree burglary and first-degree sodomy. District attorney Michael Jackson said a prior record and the severity of the charges warranted an increase in the bond amount by circuit judge Bob Armstrong.

“He had just gotten out of jail in August and then went and committed these acts,” Jackson said. “We wanted a high bond and the judge agreed.”

Jackson said Christian allegedly broke into his sister-in-law’s house and raped her.

A preliminary hearing date has been set for Jan. 28, 2014, where the prosecution will present evidence to prove guilt.

If convicted, Jackson said Christian could face life in jail on each charge.
