A former Edmundite Missions employee, responsible for finances, has been charged with theft-related felony charges, the Selma Police Department reported.
Susan Morgan, 46, has been charged with first-degree theft of property and two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.
Lt. Curtis Muhannad, a detective with the Selma Police Department, said the Edmundite Missions suspected Morgan of stealing from the church and filed a report with the department.
“They said they had identified her as the primary suspect, so what we did was search the bank statements and ensure we had probable cause to make an arrest,” Muhannad said. “She set up an account at the same bank where the Edmundite account was, and she transferred that money from their account into her account.”
Muhannad said Morgan reportedly used a credit card to make purchases that were unauthorized by the church, stealing nearly $10,000 dollars. Police cannot yet determine how she spent the money.
After being charged, Morgan was placed in the Dallas County Jail under a $90,000 bond, which she later posted.
Edmundite Missions executive director Chad McEachern confirmed Morgan was a former employee of the Catholic charity, but declined to comment.
