A Selma man was arrested Wednesday on sexual assault charges after forcibly raping a former girlfriend.

Jerry Rogers, 38, 2020 Delanie Drive, was arrested on charged of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and domestic violence by strangulation.

Selma police learned of the incident after receiving a call from the Vaughan Regional Medical Center about an assault victim, investigator Curtis Muhannad said.

The incident occurred when Rogers and the victim, who have a child together, met at a hotel on Highland Avenue. The pair began to argue about the woman’s new boyfriend, Muhannad said. During the argument Rogers punched the woman in the abdomen and slapped her face, breaking her nose.

Rogers then forced the woman into her own car. He first tried putting her in the car’s trunk before shoving her into the passenger seat, according to police reports.

The pair drove to a secluded location and Rogers forced the woman to strip down. They then drove back to the hotel, where the rape occurred. At one point, Rogers placed a pillow over her head in an attempt to suffocate her.

Muhannad said the victim was in good condition Thursday afternoon. Rogers was released from jail on a $210,000 bond.
