Concordia kicks off homecoming festivities

Concordia’s homecoming celebration will reflect their appreciation for the support and blessing that followed the bus fire incident on Sept. 21.

Don Lee, athletic director and assistant head football coach, said he and the team are thankful for the donations and support the team received after the unfortunate bus fire.

Lee said homecoming will be a celebration of those blessings and more.

“It has been amazing how the country has come together,” Lee said.

A Battle of the Bands competition, starting at 9 a.m., will kick of the homecoming events for Saturday.

The Concordia College Hornets will play the Ave Marie University Gyrenes at in Memorial Stadium at noon. Admission is $10.

Halftime will feature the homecoming court and the CCA Magnificent Marching Band.

Lee expects the game to reflect all the good practices the team has had this week.

“It’s going to be a great college game,” Lee said.

Daniel Jenkins, the Major Gift Officer at Concordia College, said this year’s homecoming has been a positive one for Concordia.

“It has brought the school together. It has strengthened the spirit of the school,” Jenkins said. “It’s a reflection of God’s blessing on this school.”

The homecoming weekend will start off with a church service Friday at 11 a.m. at the chapel, followed by a pep rally. Friday afternoon there will be a Jambalaya fest featuring the Louisiana staple, which was provided by Pastor Paul Ernewein of the Village Lutheran Church in Lacombe, Louisiana. At 8 p.m. that same night, there will be an Alumni Ball at the Carl C. Morgan Convention Center. Tickets for that event are available at the door for $25.
