A new generator is scheduled to be installed at the Selma Police Department on Sunday, June 2 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. During this time, the power will be off at the police department compound and headquarters located on Alabama Street.

Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley said the total installation is expected to take up to eight hours to full complete.

“The generator will allow the police department to maintain effective services during natural and man-made disasters that interrupt the normal electrical power flow,” Riley said. “We thank everyone for their patience in this matter.”

Riley said anyone needing police assistance can still call the department at 874-6611 or 911 in the event of an emergency.

“During this outage, officers will still be able to take reports and issue any needed citations,” Riley said.
