University of Alabama journalism major and 2012 Morgan Academy graudate Sarah Mahan has joined the staff of The Selma Times-Journal for the summer as editorial intern.

Mahan will work as a full-time member of the Times-Journal’s newsroom working as an additional staff writer during her summer tenure.

“I am looking forward to working with everyone at The Selma Times-Journal. I hope to gain some experience in news writing and reporting,” Mahan said. “After my first day, I realized I have a lot of new things to learn about how newspapers operate and the town I’ve been a part of for most of my life. Thanks to the newspaper, I don’t think there will be a dull moment during my summer.”

Mahan is the daughter of Steve and Donna Mahan of Selma. She was the valedictorian of her 2012 graduating class at Morgan.

“It’s not normally the case someone of Sarah’s abilities are so evident after during or after their freshman year that offering an internship would have been a possibility,” Times-Journal editor Tim Reeves said. “Sarah has already come in and excelled at each of the assignments we’ve given her. It’ll be fun to watch how much she’s able to learn and do.”

Mahan’s internship ends in late July as she will return to Tuscaloosa in early August for the fall semester.
