While the results of Saturday’s Butterflies and Bridges run are in, the results of just how much money was raised to support the athletic programs at Selma City Schools is still being figured.

Saturday, race organizers said the event had already raised more than $5,500, but more was expected.

“It just makes your heart swell,” race director Bill Potter said about the large amount of community support in an interview with the Times-Journal. “There were so many people out here, young and old, just having a good time — it was fantastic.”

Patrick Evans, athletic director for Selma High School, agreed and said it was a great feeling to know the community supports the school’s athletic program.

“It means a lot for our student athletes because we know that without the city supporting us we wouldn’t even be able to compete and give our student athletes all of these opportunities,” Evans said. “We can’t even begin to express how appreciative we are of this.”
