Residents can expect to see high-flying dunks and experience lots of laughter when the Harlem Ambassadors perform in Selma Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Wallace Community College gymnasium.

The Harlem Ambassadors, a traveling comedy-based basketball team, performs in cities around the world and donate all proceeds to non-profit organizations. All money generated from the Feb. 12 performance will benefit the Selma Rotary Club.

“It’s a family-friendly comedy basketball game and the ambassadors have both men and women performers who are all college educated so they’re great role models for young people,” said Andria Simmons, director of media relations for the ambassadors. “All the money raised from the event will stay in the Selma area and be used by the rotary club for the community.”

This will be the ambassadors’ 15th performance in their 2013 season. Simmons said the ambassadors provide a clean, family-friendly performance. The ambassadors will be playing against a local team, The Challengers.

“Everyone will definitely get lots of laughs when they see the show,” she said.

The show is designed to be fun for customers of all ages, with young audience members being awed by the ambassadors’ basketball tricks, Simmons said.

The ambassadors also promote quality values for teenagers by encouraging staying in school, staying drug-free and fostering racial harmony.

After the show, all attendees will get the change to meet the ambassadors and receive an autograph. Tickets for the show can be purchased through Rotary Club members.

Tickets in advance cost $8 while at the door costs $10. Children 5 and under are free.

Simmons said the comedy-packed show is something “you definitely don’t want to miss.”
