Selma and Dallas County residents came out in droves Friday to the Selma Walton Theater to see the premier of Breaking Dawn Part 2, the final movie in the Twilight saga.

The premier, which was a sold out show, attracted residents of all ages.

“We had a very mixed crowd tonight,” said David Jackson, who manages the theater along with his wife Sharon. “We had young people, older adults — it was just a wonderful thing.”

Jackson said earlier in the night he expected around 180 people to come out for the premier, but Selma exceeded his expectations and filled all 260 of the theater’s seats.

Morgan Academy student Logan Cole said, as an avid Twilight fan, she couldn’t wait to come to the Walton and see the premier.

“I was so excited when I found out Breaking Dawn was playing right here in Selma,” Cole said. “We have so many new shops and new restaurants, and now the Selma Walton Theater, it’s just really great.”

Gilley Minter, an eighth grader at Morgan, attended the 5 p.m. premier and said she loved the movie so much she decided to attend the 8 p.m. showing too.

“It was really, really good,” Minter said of the movie. “They tricked you a little bit with the ending, I wasn’t expecting that.”

A.C. Reeves, who also attended the earlier showing, said she was surprised with the ending and will see the film again.

“I’ve read all the books, but there was definitely a little surprise,” Reeves said. “It’s probably the best movie from the series.”

All in all, Jackson said he couldn’t have asked for a better night and he was happy so many people came out to enjoy the Selma Walton Theater.

“The night was a great success,” Jackson said. “The community turned out really well.”

The theater will have showings Saturday and Sunday.
